Why I believe this
As AI becomes part of more decisions, people will care more about whether a system is transparent, accountable, and aligned with their interests.
An intelligent interface can feel useful while still being impossible to understand. It can recommend, prioritise, filter, write, decide, and influence without making its assumptions visible.
That may work for low-stakes tasks.
It will not be enough for education, public systems, finance, health, identity, or opportunities that materially affect people’s lives.
The products that last will not only be intelligent. They will be trustworthy.
What would change my mind
If people consistently choose opaque but more capable systems over transparent systems in high-stakes settings.
